Just wondering if everyone here is 100% truthful all the time about their real life stuff. Have you ever knowingly lied or withheld factual information regarding any of the following:
Your age
Your Gender
Your sexual preference or experiences
Your geographical location (where u livin at!
Your occupation
Your rl hobbies or interests
Anything else pertaining to your real, offline life
The reason I ask this is because I assume everyone has a fantasy online persona that they like to project. Mine is an amplification of several r/l traits I do possess but without many of the boring traits that go along with it.
Sometimes I fib about certain aspects of my life that I am not comfortable sharing with strangers. For all I know that sweet little girl avatar I'm chatting with could be a weirdo pervert stalker serial killer, so I am guarded when it comes to what I will share about my personal info.
Info. I withhold or fib about:
My exact geographical location
My exact place of employment (although I don't lie about what I do)
My r/l name
My kids names
Stuff I am always truthful about:
My age
My marital status (happily taken by a crazy scottish guy!
My musical tastes
My college major(s) (I've had several!
I don't feel that any of the info I withhold or change takes anthing away from this game. I'm not here to have online intimate relationships with people. I don't have a webcam nor do I watch other people's. I feel that my real life is entirely separate from my online one. And yes, in There my fiance has an avatar so we are engaged in vr too Sin like you mean it!

Hi Daemona,
I never have, nor do I have any real desire to have an on-line fantasy persona (Although being 20 again with a great tan would be a nice fantasy, but I have a damn mirror in my house . I suspect this is more due to my age as I have learned that being someone your not is too much work
I class myself as an extremely truthful person, but I do withhold any specific detail that would allow someone to directly contact me in real life. There is no off-limits information that I will not tell except exact city location and last name. I normally do not offer my employer's name, but it is pretty easy to guess from a short conversation with me
I left the on-line open chat scene over 20 years ago with "There" being my first return to a non-game enviroment. My wife was actually quite concerned that I broke my standing rule and was chatting in "There".
I have very strict rules for my kids when on-line which I occasionally have to monitor. I think that for a woman, keeping personal information confidential is much more critical. I prefer my young daughter to either not reveal her age or say she is 33. A woman saying she is 13 to 22 is just looking to attract the wacko's on-line. It's too bad, but that is the world we live in. Of course I always assume that cute avatar is a 280 pound hairy man eating greasy chicken at the keyboard. It keeps things in perspective for me
I will reveal all in specific cases but that only happens over a period of time and very rarely. "There" really has done a good job at attracting some nice people so far, but as it grows, so will the trouble-makers.
While I might seem a bit more pleasant on-line , I am who I am. No real secrets here when you meet me, just some common sense in withholding identifying information.
Have a fun and safe time in "There"

I'm new to the "chat" world ... and I've found that I've developed the habit of being truthful but only revealing selected information that doesn't push my personal comfort level. For example - I feel ok telling where I generally live and the type of work I do but not my street address or the name of my employer. I generally tell the truth to questions I feel comfortable answering because unless I develop and maintain a consistent "persona" it's too darn confusing and complicated to remember to whom I've told which story.
Hope this helps ... ~ leopard

I do about the same as you leopard. I will give my rl first name if asked but never by rl last name (even though my number is unlisted you just never know.) I am comfortable giving my real age, what I do for a living, and the state that I live in. If I meet others from the same state I may also describe which part of the state I reside in. Aside from ages and genders of my kids info of them is strictly off limits. The only thing about the "persona" of Daemona that is different from me irl is that irl I am pretty heavy and would not be caught dead in some of the racier clothes D runs around in. Now if I were 18 again and still thin that's a whole other story!
I do get into the whole role-play thing with the clubs so it's fun to pretend to be a tough-talking, no-nonsense, shoot first ask questions later type of character in this game, cuz irl I am soooo BORING!!! Sin like you mean it!

Well, you're not boring in There . Hehe. I'm slightly more cocky and self-confident in There as well, and agree with the idea that you should divulge what you're comfortable with.
I'm a pretty straightforward person in There and RL, but if I've just met someone see no need to give them too many details.
I can't keep complex 'stories' straight, so I don't lie, just downplay what I tell someone until I know them better (or rapidly make excuses/change the subject if I'm not comfortable). Some people in There have become such good friends that maybe they know more about me than would be prudent, but then, over time we've earned each other's trust, and if they are 280 pound greasy men eating chicken, maybe they just need to be loved by someone.. LOL. .
I think it's prudent advice for anyone on the Internet to be slightly leery of how personal they get with someone else, but you've got to trust someone to have a meaningful friendship eventually... or maybe I'm wrong.

I am truthful about: my age, my gender, my general location, my living situation, my sexual orientation, pretty much anything else not listed below.
I don't offer up: details on my appearance, IM identities
I've been known to fib about: my first name, my appearance (i have self-esteem issues), my phone number
Things I never reveal without tons of prior contact and a high level of trust: my address, my phone number, my last name
If you ever talk to me online, it is pretty much like what I am like IRL, except that I am much less hesitant and shy online. Gee wonder why "Tell me, did Venus blow your mind? Here is the scoop on the real life "aqua loco" Things i do not lie about are: My gender, my city, where i work and my past experiences.
I dont lie about anything else because I just dont feel comfortable with giving out more information and feel at times I may already have given away too much.
But really in the confines of there what does it matter? It's not like many will meet the people behind the avatars anyway. I find it creepy when people want intimate knowledge of you, ecspecially someone you just met online. If that person wants to volunteer the information fine, but dont go hounding people with questions they dont feel comfortable answering. Ecspecially when said person starts putting in sexual overtones in the conversation.
When I log onto there, I just want to chat with people, maybe mess around on my hoverboard and check up with some online friends. I dont want to play who is really what in real life, and who is a liar. I leave such games up to the gossip mongers.
I think some people get caught up in the exploits of a virtual character and feel betrayed or let down when the real life person doesn't live up to their virtual counterparts. I have my profile in there filled with ludicrous obviously untrue information. I put in there for a laugh and leave my life out there blank.
On a side note I have been accused from being a a 280 man eating greasy chicken type to being a man hating colored lesbian in a wheel chair to everything else in between. I'm just an average womanl in rl who wouldn't stand out in a crowd. The type of person you pass on the sidwalk and not give a second thought or a glance to. I view my long time nick name of aqualoco as my alter ego. Someone who is way more wild and adventurous than I am. It's not a lie, just an exxagerated facet of my personality.
Sometimes its fun to have a little air of mystery behind someone, and not to know every single nitty gritty detail.
Sorry this post is so long but i tend to ramble on such things, heh. In closing let me just say that the person behind the curtain may not be as interesting as you think they are. I was playing a female avatar in there, before it was cool.
Sworn to fun, loyal to none.

Actually, I have been truthful about everything. My Age, my marital status, they way I look(yes the pis in my profile is ME) ROFL Everything, with HB, what you see if what you get, either you like me err her...err us ROFL, or you dont, its that simple
Very few people know my RL name, and its just b/c its not something that comes up in convos often. Virtually all my friends know where I live(not my actual address, but 2 people know that as well) 2 people also know my telephone number etc. So, I mean basically if you ask, I will tell, Im pretty honest and up front Opinions are like arseholes we have all got em and they are all differnet!

What I think is that I don't care what people do so long as it does not hurt others in any way, but that doesn't mean I've lied about anything myself mind you. I've been truthful about everything I've been asked. Tell someone there are over a billion stars in the sky, and they'll believe you. Tell them a bench has wet paint and they simply HAVE to touch it.

I'm probably TOO honest about myself online, but admittedly I don't wear speedos in RL NEARLY as much as I do in There.
OK, OK, so I wouldn't be caught dead doing a `toehop or `heyhey in RL either.

Gotta love my Mackie Doll
seriously though, you're a total doll and where would we be without you? You let yourself trust us and look where it got ya! Spankies galore!
I've never lied about myself, if I want someone to know something (like a phone number), I'll offer it up if it is needed. I would never answer with a lie, if I dont want someone to have something, I'll say as much or change the subject.
Now some people here do have my cell phone number and I have had a few nice conversations (missed my Bama boo though...what a LOVELY voice )
And I even got to chat for a bit with my Mackie Doll I tell you what sometimes when you get to know people and you take chances, wonderful things can happen. I took a chance on a game called There that I'd never heard of on Ariadne's recommendation, and by doing so I've met some of the nicest, most wonderful people online (not to mention the large number of MAJOR HOTTIES!
That's my final answer, my point, and I'm sticking to it
I love you all like an extended family.

I've had my rl pic in my profile since I found a place to host it. Also, I say EXACTLY where I live, maybe a little too exact. I am in the state of Pennsylvania, in the USA, on the continent of North America, on the planet Earth in the Sol System in the Orion arm of the Milky Way Galaxy in the Virgo SUpercluster. Although for some reason I'm not worried about freak stalkers....wonder why.

I don't lie about anything. Just not worth it at all. You see, the online friends you make become real friends and then the lies can bite you in the patooty. If I don't want someone to know something, I usually become very vague about it (i.e. I live on the East Coast). That's different from lying and if I get to know the person better I usually give more details. My rl pic is my rl pic an I don't mind it being on my bio. Actually, I prefer that people realize that I don't look like my avi... even though she resembles me alot when I was younger rofl.
Mackie honey, if I were as cute as you I'd have my rl pics plastered on billboards!
