Do you like the new hoverboard controls in PB2 (Public Beta 2) as opposed to PB1?

Yes!
It allows more combinations, and takes more skill to pull off a sharp combination of tricks in a fluent pattern. Going to be great for Trick contests.

No.
I managed to do one trick by accident and I don't even know how I did it.
It was fine the way it was before. We should have the option of using either controls.
I will try to learn the new method but if I can't, I will personally give all of my boards to newbies.
Right now I am EXTREMELY disappointed.

One thing with new tricks you can forget about using a mousepad! I don't like the timing part of it..If you don't start the trick at just the right time, its just a boring freefall. Trying to dodge signs, people, and hitting the ramp just right plus nailing the trick on-time gets a little hectic..But we all will get used to it and laugh at the old trick controls eventually. You gotta admit you have total control now over your movements instead of a handful of simple tricks.. You can combine 2 or 3 together and pull off a radical trick (of course if you hit the 1st one right! What we need is a longer turbo button!! Cya.

I would really like "Riding the Wind" trick back. About half the fun of boarding was that trick for me.

I can do that. slowly push the mouse forward. until in the position and it will ride the wind. as long as you dont move the mouse.

I have not been able to replicate it yet... I keep going upside down and falling on my ass... if it is possible then it's WAY too difficult -- this remark is coming from the 1st place winner of Satire's 3rd hoverboard stunt competition too.

Lets give it some time folks. Anything new always sucks, especially if you're used to doing something a certain way.
I finally got in last night and spent some TIME trying out the new moves. There is going to have to tweek the mouse throw, I had to move my mouse off the pad and onto the desk, the amount of space required to throw the board around is unsat, I admit.
Now, I can tell you how to do a roll. From a stationary postion let's do a barrel roll to the left:
1. Click the right mouse key to squat and then let go.
2. As the board rises, press and hold the LEFT arrow key. Your avatar's hand will seeze the left side of the board.
3. The board will continue into the jump, IMMEDIATELY click the RIGHT mouse button and hold it down You'll hear a little sound que to tell you that you're in trick mode, then:
4. Swipe the mouse to the left, if you get the sequence of steps right you'll roll to the left. Swipe the mouse back to the right.
5. Watch yourself make a recovery or fall off. KEEP trying, and you'll have the hang of it. Most of the other "tricks" work in the same series of mouse presses, arrow key holds and mouse swipes. PRESS, HOLD, SWIPE, RECOVER
There is a bit of curve to learning the new ways but after a few hours I was able to get the hang of it, Now I need to be smooooth and precise, which is gonna take a while.
I spent most of my time stationary, I did try the ramps but I couldn't seem to pass through the trick "Window" on the jumps with any degree of consistency but I'll work on that.
Hope I didn't p*ss anyone off. I gotta go. You'll never live if you look for the meaning of life. - Albert Camus

The thing I hate the most about the PB2 controls is the jumping. I just press "Jump" and it does a trick - jump. Thing is, I dont want my avatar to pose and limit my control while I jump. Jumping is an essencial part of boarding, even in my case - where I only use boarding to get to places. And alot.
By turning Jumping into a silly trick they've pretty much limited by navigational abilities. I really prefer the old type.

I hate it. I'm not a trick jumper or anything like that. I'm more of an explorer/racer type person. To me, The new controls are horrendous. The new air control (or lack their of) on the hoverboards sucks total ass. Their no course correction i can do once i get airborne. i can't turn or move at all. i just stand their looking like a dork jumping into a bush, pole, or whatever other obstacles that are in my way.
Go back PB1 style. I don't care if it makes tricks easier. I'd rather have air control more than making it harder for newbs to pull of a loopty ollie mctwist.

I hate it as well, It's totally ruined free boardiing Yeah the tricks are 'better' but I'm extremely limited in when and where I can do them. It's impossible to fly though a forest with out touching the ground due to lack of air control - ok the first jump is ok, but the second you bounce off an object all air control is gone which generally means fly into something upside down and getting knocked off the board.:(

Well, I don't hate them or anything, I just prefer the original ones where I could do all sorts of nifty spins without having to concentrate too hard. Being unable to properly jump really grates on my nerves, especially as much as I used the hoverboard for exploration. I'll likely try to get used to them, but still would have liked to be able to do a bit more like previously.

Admittedly, I haven't been able to give them a fair shake, but at first attempt I found them very unsatisfying. For those who just liked to fool around and do jumps, rolls, spins, etc., these new controls make what was once effortless a confusing mess. What, were the controls too easy before?? Someone hit the nail on the head - There took the fun out of free-boarding.
I feel like boarding has become more like a PS2 videogame, where you have to input controls and push buttons like a maniac to execute a simple trick. Perhaps my 8-yr-old nephew (who owns X-Box and GameCube and kicks my butt on SSX Tricky, or whatever it is...) would find it a piece of cake, but not me. Not yet.
I spent a lot of time teaching newbies how to do tricks on a hoverboard. Most of them were really skeptical about There, thinking it was merely a chat room with a coat of paint. But afterwards, they were soooo psyched that you could do really cool stuff, and jump right in and have fun. Now, I can't teach them anything, which makes it unsatisfying for both parties. What next, make all the buggies stick-shift?
My vote: keep it simple, keep it fun. This isn't Tony Hawk. Don't try to make like it is.

yes I do. The old tricks were Generic and the new ones have Style. If anyone wants a detailled explanation of the tricks I posted in There forums support:tips n tricks: "the colman challenge". It is also in members:buzz. I have been asked to post it here in there universe as well, so look for it! :0)
By the way the HB community has shown so much interest and replied to There at such a huge level that they are currently and will be fixing these issues. Please be patient and dont give your boards to newbies unless theyre just extras

Yep I used to split my board/buggy time 50/50.
Now with the new beta I don't use my boards. Spend 99% of the time in the buggy rather than on the board. I spent a few hours trying to do something meaningful with the board a few days ago. Needless to day I won't be trying that again.
Im just glad I never wasted much money on boards that would have made me really angry. Now my 6 buggies on the other hand are great fun! It would be nice if they had a suspension like every other vehicle in every other computer game. How or why they made buggies without suspensions I'll never understand. ...just call me Number 2

It's a love/hate feeling from me and the new trick mode. One min I love it the next I hate it!!! Keeping the new & incorporating some of the old ones like "ride the wind" and jumping off high cliff with more control will make them almost perfect and challenging.

I don't find the new controls difficult in the slightest... Heck if I can figure them out, anyone can... I didn't even know you COULD do tricks until after the update so I don't know what the old style was like, but if it was easier than it is now I can't imagine what it was like... Hey guys I feel I need to update this...
I LOVE THE NEW CONTROLS. After Launim showed me how to use them properly and I started listening to the sound again to hear the good or bad sound for trick mode I eventually got it.
Boards are great now!!! You can do super crazy stuff that you couldnt before.
Yippy!!! ...just call me Number 2

I'd be happy to show anyone everything they need to know about boards, be it oldie or newbie. The only thing that's eluded me is the ride the wind technique, but I've only spent about 3 hours trying to get it - snow, expect an IM & a bribe from me sometime lol.
With many discussions about pb1 vs. pb2 controls in game, I've come to the conclusion that only stubborness is keeping many from exploring the difference. Almost all of my "there" friends are pb1. I am pb2, so self admittedly, may not have as much room to judge, however, I am familiar with mouse vs. keyboard moves in other games. Understand that using keyboard controls to perform moves primarily gives you a certain reliability, and repeatability that many people enjoyed once you mastered the controls.
It also was very limited.
Understand also, that using a mouse now as a primary function does not give you the same certainty, it relies on your coordination in sliding a mouse, which is a far, far more variable control surface then a key press. The reward for this though, is increased capability, and a "personal" level of trick that that can be un-repeatable by most others if you can master it.
Yes, it is hard. Yes, it is worth it. The mouse allows you to do 1/2 moves and 1/4 moves, and transition quickly into new ones that you couldn't do with a keyboard (as I am led to believe). It allows you a almost realistic 'free' style.
I spend almost no time on a bug for this exact reason.. it's the same. No matter what I do, it will always fall the same, drive the same, break at the same speed, roll at the same speed, lose control etc. It's not as personal an experience.
To control yourself in the air, use left/right arrow key and mouse angle at the same time. Unless you're falling free fall outside of trickmode, you can orient yourself fine. This works exceptionally well over very rough surfaces.
To avoid the "jump" syndrome: you don't have to jump to enter trick mode. You can simply right click as fast as you would a left click. So much so that you never actually "jump" you simply enter trick mode. Practice this by placing your nose at the base of a ramp from a stand still, and boosting. Right clicking fast enough before you reach the end of the ramp will enter you in trick mode without a "jump" - the ramp is doing all the work. Miss the click, and you sail like a big-air-dork try this from bumps on flat ground, and you can see it too.

Flat out, the new boarding is way better. It makes boarding a skill, rather than it just being easy. So the more your practice the more you get better. At first it's pretty hard to get the hang of. Once you get it down though, style a plenty. About a week or two after PB2 was released I won the official There Hoverboard Trick contest (1st place)! You can basically do any move you feel like when you want to. I have it down pat, if anyone needs help look for Red_Eye or just IM me, I will gladly teach you like I have taught MANY others. Peace, Red_Eye

Ikonboard is letting you know when the last action OR last post was. Last action means that someone could have simply voted, as votes bump polls.
