Yesterday I had the day off, so I was able to log into There as soon as it opened.  A lot of my "buddies" on my list, play at night or weekends, so I went to karuna plaza, knowing I would find lots of people there to talk to.  I was checking a few people's profiles, looking for new members or trial members so I could answer a few questions if they had any.  I found this one guy that looked like a noob (noob clothes, noob face) and starting talking to him.  He mentioned how much he liked my shirt, and wished he had the money for clothes.  As I was talking to him, he would occasionaly use emotes that are NOT on the standard emote bar.  He claimed he was only 4 days old.  Now, I don't know about you, but I was still learning the interface and learning how to walk around correctly during the first week.  He would constantly lead the conversation towards clothing or money.  I went to check his profile, and it was marked private.  I bode him well and left, thinking this was a player in noobs clothing looking for a free shirt or money.  I would think it weird that a new person would block his profile.  What do you think?

Sounds a little fishy to me.  If I can't tap a profile or they have more than a blue funpass, they get nothing from me, no matter how much they #### and moan about being broke. There 4 All - Community Journal

You get a lot of those, honestly the only way to be safe with that is don't give out things to newbies if their profile is blocked (Unless you claimed them on the mentor program).

Okay #1 if the avatar's profile is on private then they arent a noob, simple.

#2 if you click on the People button and do a search for that name it will say the date their avatar was created even though you cant see the profile

There ya go ...just call me Number 2

Actually... this may sound funny, but the first thing I did when I found out about my profile page back at PB1, was to mark it "private". :P

And i'm talking about my very first day here.

So, its very possibly that newbies will have a private profile. I suggest sticking to people search to check on how new the newbies really are.

That is not good, if I were you I would go upto a bronze fun pass as I played there a lot my first 2 days I joined and got the bronze fun pass on the 2nd day (I've only been in there a week tomorrow evening) and I have skills up but I'm still a poor newbie with very little (except for 20k and some skill gifts). Yeah cool_guy, you are right and I stand corrected on that issue.  :D   It is true that the blue book is not always a reliable indicator, but the profile most certainly is.  If its locked, I wont even bother to search, I just walk off.  Some may choose to lock theirs like Crystal, but most newbies I dont think would. One thing noone has brought up is the possibility that older users can simply create a free trial account avatar, run around with the big sorry newbie face, and collect hand outs which they can then hand off to their original avatar.

I am no longer helping anyone who runs up to me and asks for clothes or money. The nerve! In PB1 you never heard of anything like that and if you did there were so few ppl around that the word got out quick. Hee hee I sound like a crotchety old bat :P In my day you didn't ask for stuff you took what was offered to ya and ya liked it! ROFLMAO ok ok I need to go sit down I'm feeling my age here! I saw a guy in Tiki Cove Plaza (what I call Karuna Lite) AFK skilling with about 10 dogs. He joined on Oct 29th and is already expert dog handler! I took a screenshot of it but you can't tell how fast he was spittin out commands with his macro program. "Life is only what we choose to make it, let's just take it, let us be free...

I lend out vehicles mostly but I'm skittish about giving clothes and I NEVER give out money to newbies unless it's a small amount and I got enough to spare.

The main problem I have with giving clothes is that if they decide not to sign up, I'm out a few articles of clothing. I wish we could LEND clothing... I almost lost my Crow's Jacket after giving it to a newb to try on so I could show some other people... he put it on, did a few poses then left the chat and ran off. Luckily I was able to get it back  :gun2: "Life is only what we choose to make it, let's just take it, let us be free...

Well I have had a experince with a person I met before,

Well first of all I have to say that this person (trying to fake newb) I had met before, but didn't know it at the time, untill he asked if I cuold have a shirt that I had (I never wore that shirt the whole day) and he mad it sound like HE knew I had it. But I didn't say anything, later on he gave a way a couple  more clues that he had got another avtar to play winy newb. At the time I wasn't sure who it was,but when he signed off then signed back on the other avtar and IMed me about a avtar (the one he was on earlier) asking for things and how annyoing he was (the avtar the person was curntley on hadn't signed on at all that day plus the "fake newbe" was the first day in world. So this guy pissed me off, I later found out he was 11! ( I seem to have a LOT of younger kids come to me asking for money and stuff, manly becuase I use voice and I am 13, so they come to me, ugh.) But this guy was on ignore in a flash. I will not give out his main avtar name, but the fake newb was zsmboy so watch out for the dirty scammer .

Now you might have to read this a couple times, lol. Its a little confussing but I hate these damn shcool laptop keyboards.

As a newbie myself I think it would be very rude to ask for free stuff.  The only thing I've actually asked for was to borrow someones buggy for a while.  Of course this pretty much means I haven't gotten much from people but that's ok. I knew you could lend things before I started as I had friends already inworld. I asked a few people in Tiki Cove I think it was how I could check out the buggies, and Phantium lends me a buggy, hoverbike, hoverpack, hoverboat and hoverboard (which I lost and nearly had a fit thinking he was going to kill me :D ). I don't see why newbies need the be given stuff, nearly everyone had to put money in to start off, if people ask I just tell them to get into designing, find someone who will fund them, use the money from that etc etc.

There is nothing lower than pretending to be a newbie and scamming for stuff.

Fake noobs with fake boobs. I was playing a female avatar in there, before it was cool.

Hey i am dead sexy in my newb gear and I wear it a lot! I don't accpet offers of loaner vehicles or new clothes. I usually tell ppl I am incognito hiding from someone (I usually am!;)

I explain that from a distance the newb outfit as a blockhead just blends in easier with all the real newbs. So if I don't want mystalkers to find me I just toss on teh newb outfit. But when I am ready to be pounced I start whipping out the wardrobe selections

So Ara I'll be fake newb with you anytime! We are damn hot in our tan capris and white tees! Plus I'm a blonde newbie so I am just WAY sexy! Sin like you mean it!

Ara, I feel your pain... its just funny to watch what people will do when they just "see" a n00b.

I remember this one group I was in the one chick there was helping 2 new borns... and she had barely been a member herself but for a few days... at least well I thought it was funny.  But I always tell people I'm no n00b before leaving, never accept any gifts/lends, and my main purpose (aside from my own sick enjoyment) is to get people to look at profiles to help protect them from scammers...

*still giggling over fake noobs w/fake boobs*

Last night a few of us were near one of the spawning points. I ended up REALLY steamed, as did a couple of others.. but I will save that for another post. *snicker* Dangit, a couple joined our chat group.. which I normally don't mind.. this time, I did.. for reasons left to be explained in that other post.. LOL

Anyway, we were talking about newbies and helping and stuff.. One of the individuals that just joined us started whining about being new. It was obvious that she was wanting us to give stuff.. as we had just been saying what we had given away. EVERY time we mentioned something, she whined about being new and having nothing.

Now.... thing is... she was wearing "designer" clothes.. and changed outfits at least 3 times while standing there. None of which was a newbie outfit, a shop central outfit, or a CHEAP outfit.. they were all high-end in the price chain. Her profile dated her as joining in August. She had several skill levels.. a few clubs.. and was a DJ for one of the in-world radio stations. Plus, the person she was with kept telling her he would buy her anything she wanted. She commented on a TUV, he offered to buy it for her. A board, hey.. it's yours babe.. and look at the buggy I got ya earlier.. etc etc.

New? *SNORT* YEAH RIGHT! A naive girl can be infatuated with a knight,
but only a woman can love the man inside the armor.

Put the avie name into a people search. You can get a private and a visitors joined date. Sometimes it shows joined date for private profiles, sometimes it doesn't return results.

Usually it does return results and the joined date in the search list. So that is a way to circumvent the scammers posing as newbies with private profiles. Issues are everywhere, and everyone has issues.

So I'm standing in Karuna and this girl runs up in a pink outfit and a blonde sweep and starts asking for clothing. I said no i don't have any spares. Then she asks if she can have threbucks to buy some clothes!

it was one of those 4 avie convos and one of the ppl in the convo had a friend run up that he wanted to join the convo. He very politely asked her if she would mind stepping out so that his friend could join and she started whining about how everyone was always asking the new people to leave that noone ever wanted to talk to new people (I think most helpers are all over newbies) but I simply said "Nope just the ones who run up begging and don't offer anything else to the conversation."

Ok maybe I was harsh but damn it's annoying when we get kids in here just expecting all of the mommy and daddy avatars to pay their way. She already had at least one outfit adn a new hairstyle! Sometimes I wish I could remove my newbie helper skill from showing in my profile, that renowned just looks too inviting to beggers. Sin like you mean it!

God ... heard about someone doing this last night at Paladin's party. Remember also, CHECK FOR THE VOICE CHAT ICON! No newbie DROPS into There w/ voice chat. And if they have their profile blocked. They're no newbie. What newb knows how to do that or WOULD do that? Someone who's trying to hide their join date. That's who.

Now if only we could get these people banned .... ~Porscha~
