:nervous:  ???

Well, Nalora, do you mean that ALL these things need to occur before you would leave, or would you leave if just ONE or maybe TWO of these things occur??

I think it would really be dreaming to hope that NONE of these things will occur . . . some or most of these are to be expected in most online games . . . hopefully at a very minimum, but they will happen . . .

One of my biggest complaints is the Voice system . . . only about 1 in 10 people seem to have their mics adjusted and then when about 4 speak at once, it is a problem . . . and on top of that, I have recently heard some VERY vulgar conversations which we should not have to be subjected to . . . I know I can shut down my speakers, but I do enjoy the music.

love MOST of it . . . lol

DeShawn    :butterfly:

Oh, back to the original post . . . almost all of these would have to occur for me to feel I should leave There . . . When God wants to see me smile, He shows me butterflies!!

1. Maybe you need new friends? I've met my share of assholes but they are never considered "cool".
2. Huh? We're petty? How so?
3. What sort of activites... like trivia games? There's plenty of those. And if not...host one!
4. ....ok that one's legitimate.
5. Read the forums (both these and the official forums), check your email, hang out in the IRC chat. Thereinc IS communicating with us.... if you do any of these things you will be in the know.
6. Again I'm not quite sure what you mean here... like "Americans are better than everyone else"?
7. That's what Iggy is for.
8. When was the last time you played? There are not many bugs at all in the newest release, particularly the annoying ones like rubberbanding are completely gone. A quick logoff/logon has fixed any bugs i've encountered since the new version.
9. There's support is among the best I've seen. This probably goes back to the forums as well: if you post there, they listen.

Maybe you could clear up the ones I'm not sure of?

Deshawn: There has a volume control with indepent controls for voice, music, and environment. It's under There->Customize->World->Volume. :) Live near Cincinatti? Wanna meet other Thereians?
IM me ingame or PM me here to receive updates about any RL gatherings planned.

Next gathering:
Sometime around Christmas?
Somewhere around Newport?

1. General "cool to be an asshole" attitude of many of the people in There.
I haven't met many of these people in There.  Perhaps I've been lucky?  Either way, you're going to have them wherever you go, real or virtual world.  The trick is to just walk away when they start.
2. Pettyness of many of the people in There
Again, I haven't seen too much of this.  The only real pettiness I've seen is a lot of the complaints about small things (this is not a jab at you) while There is trying to work on the big things.  As has been stated by quite a few people, a lot of the members *are* whiners.  And it's not so much the valid complaints about bugs... it's the "oooomg, There is not open!!  *self destruct*".  That gets a little... old.
3. Lack of activities that stimulate the intellect.
Like Star said, start up your own events.  There does its part by giving  you the option of running your own type of event.  Run some trivia.. or a nice conversation about quantum physics... whatever you want.
4. High cost of everything.
 Agreed.
5. Lack of any communication from the corporation about what is going on.
Main forums, ThereUniverse (and all similar outlets), IRC... you're covered.  I am of the mind that, sure, they need to tell us some things, but that doesn't mean they need to tell us everything.  Though I will say that sometimes when they *do* decide to explain something, there is a tendancy to be a bit vague.
6 Elitist attitudes.
Like with the group in #1, the best option is to walk away.  There are so many others in There who do not fit into these categories.  I imagine you've just had bad luck with the folks you've run into?  Trust me, for every bad seed there's always a handful more of the good ones. :)
7. Harrassment by cretinous people who fall into category 1.
 Ignore.
8. Bugs bugs bugs bugs bugs.
This is where I have to disagree with Star, because there *are* many bugs still in the game.  There will work on these, I am sure, as they receive information on them.  If they didn't care at all, we'd go without things like the recent patch.
9. Polyanna/blinders-on attitude of those in charge.
I don't see the pollyanna attitude... or perhaps I do, but I call it a 'positive outlook'.  They won't get very far acting like every problem is the beginning of the end of There. "I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong."

I think at some point we all feel the way you do now. Unfortunately, the list you provided describes every online community I've ever been a part of, as well as many real world ones.

I think you may find an answer to some of the problems you are dealing with in an old Zen saying. I know it has worked for me many a time.

The saying goes something like this:

"Master, I feel hopeless, powerless and weak. I feel the weight of world upon me. How can I find the strength to carry on? What should I do master? He looked at me, smiled and replied "Help others."."

Helping others won't solve everything. But I find that #'s 1,2,3,6 & 7 become less of a problem when I am spending time doing it. Feel free to stop by the club New Members Social Services if you are interested in meeting some new players who would be delighted to spend some time with you and gain from your experiences in There. :)

Hey Nalora! It was nice meeting you in-world yesterday!  (She didn't remember me; thought I was a masher.) hehe

I don't have time for a full response, but I just wanted to say  a few quick things.  There is full of people who bring all of the characteristics and issues of the real world with them.  Can you expect it to be any different?

In the gathering I had when you saw me, most of the Avies were under 18.  They were loud and obnoxious, and got tiring fast.  HelenK and I finally left for a quiet boat ride.

Basically, I've learned that There is what you make of it! BOINCer, but you may call me Bo

Talk to UnkleBob.  He will stimulate your intellect until it hurts.

> 4. High cost of everything.

Go see Digital_Signal_X.  DSX wrote a great book on how to "make a job" for yourself in order to get T$ flowing.

Ignore + Forcefield

> 8. Bugs bugs bugs bugs bugs.

Report report report report report.  If There doesn't know about them, how can they fix them?  That's our jobs as Beta Testers... to make sure There is aware when things aren't working right.

> 9. Polyanna/blinders-on attitude of those in charge.

I don't know who you have encountered, but if one person doesn't see, try another.  If that person doesn't see, ask for their manager.

DeShawn, as to the voice problem and vulgar conversations, there are two solutions.

If you want to just shut down ALL voice and still hear the music... Go into your There menu, Customize, World, Volume.  You can drop voice volume to the very bottom which will mute all voice, but still have the music.

If you just want to squelch one vulgar person... ignore.

Of course, if this is someone you know, someone you associate with and don't want to ignore them... talk to them.  Tell them that language bothers you.  If they are a friend, they'll respect that.  If it's a stranger, Ignore... you dont' have to KEEP them on your ignore list, just while they're being vulgar. No, I have some friends in There, and they are not the assholes. I enjoy my time with them, but it seems more and more I have to deal with a Myriad of assholes whose idea of fun is to SPOIL mine, or insert their own agenda into mine.

Secondly, I don't need lectures from the peanut gallery about life. I am most likely the oldest person in There, at 46 years of age. I have a varied life experience, including living on the streets, being in the Military and gaining my Masters degree.

I do read the forums, and I do read the stuff here, and to be quite honest it does MORE  not less to my desire to shut the thing off and say....see ya....I will be out in my garden with my dog if you wonder where I am.

Thing is there is very very very very little room in THERE for just plain, common DECENT folk, and a helluva lot of room for the dregs of humanity and the internet.

When I came to There it was called a glorified chat room. Now it is getting more and more like a teenage goth angst porn site.

Maybe its just me but didn't you post in a forum? You made a statement and opened up a discussion. Naturally people would reply. I'm sorry you didn't like what they had to say but it is the truth. There is full of many different types of people. Much like the real world. If you don't like the people in your current location, go make some new friends. BTW, 46 isn't that old for There. I have many more friends who are much older than that and I'm 18. =) I like the comment "There is what you make of it" It's true, don't try to make There adjust to you, adjust your own There experience. Ok, my harsh ranting is over.

I have also noticed that the There community is changing.  I noticed the same thing in the TSO community right before it moved from Beta to live.  It seems to me that the community is getting younger (same thing happened in TSO).  Funny thing is that many of the TSO Beta Testers eventually got fed up with not just TSO, but the community too and moved to There.  *Wonders where the next exodus is heading ;)* Marcy_D

Thanks Kevin_McVeigh for the advice and comments on adjusting my sound system . . . I appreciate it very much.

And Nalora, I hope you don't really leave There . . . it has so much to offer and like most of the replies in this thread stated, it is up to us the Players to make it what we want and if we create something good, then maybe more will want what we have . . .

1 and 2, you'd be hard pressed not to find a place on the internet that doesn't have these types of people, although within There it is harder to ignore (without actualy ignoring) these people due to the avatars.

3 - Agreed, somewhat, if by this you mean conversation then not agreed, you can find intelligent conversation, its just hard to find. If you mean activities as in interactive activities moreso than chat, then agreed, paintballing, buggy driving, or quizes aren't the most intelligent activities, an example of one would be Chess, Mind Puzzles, etc. There is a chess board... but it doesn't do anything but sit there.

4 - Agreed. My number one reason for leaving There would be this, the greed of a company will always be its downfall, and help groups or reading a book on how to earn money isn't solving the problem of overpricing... only adjusting to it.

5 - agreed and not agreed. I feel they do more than most companies do on letting us know about whats going on, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't do more.

6 - Agreed. This is present in most walks of life, but thats not an excuse.

7 - I don't know about this one... Ignore does wonders, but, if you feel this way so much about so many people you'll end up getting harrased even more for ignoring so many people, If you don't like so many people who act the way as stated in number 7 you'll have probly just as many people on ignore.

8. It is very buggy for something thats been "around" as long as it has, but it is also a very complicated program. I know of alot of worse programs that don't even do as much as There does. However it does seem like there are some bugs that slip through that shouldn't. I don't want to make I set statement on this because I don't know a day in the life of a There programer.

9. What does Polyanna mean? Heh. Anyway, if you mean they don't acknoweldge things, thats true, but its mostly because they are a company and companies usualy don't like to say "we know we made a mistake" although Tom and others have stated that before, or something close to it. To be an upfront and honest company would be the most rare thing I have ever seen.

I know many of these have been touched on before and stated before, and I know it probly wont help any to post such a long winded response, but everyone needs to read more :) "Don't anticipate outcome," the man said. "Await the unfolding of events. Remain in the moment." - Konrad

There are far more assholes and jerks in the real world, sadly we cannot just uninstall them like we can with There.

When I joined I was lucky to meet some of the nicest people in There.  I've seen a few jerks here and there, but for the most part, people I interact with are really nice and are just there for the same reason I am, to have fun.  Maybe I've been lucky enough not to be the target of someone's cruelty yet.  *knocks on wood*

Just don't expect There to cater to your personal needs.  Find what you like, and who you like, and you'll see, it'll be a lot more fun.

Again, ignore the bad seeds.  That's what the option is there for.  Don't let them get to you though -- that's all they want is attention.

Secondly, I was not trying to lecture.  As it was mentioned, you were the one who brought this issue up for public debate.  Often this results in the voicing of opinions different than yours.  I am so sorry I all didn't agree with you and instead tried to show you a different POV or offer advice.  Apologies.

I am a pretty average person.  There is plenty of room for me in There.... if there wasn't, I would not have been a member since February 15th.

Oh whew! I love you guys too.  :holdme: I just had to laugh at that qoute.  :laughroll:

I think that, in a place like There, there's SO many things I can do to escape an annoying situation, and SO little someone can do to actually hurt me! I mean, I can make fun of them for being silly and annoying, I can just walk/drive/board/teleport away. I can make friends with them...Lots and lots of options! I dont even see a reason to use Ignore. There is a fun, happy, safe place! And being a bit evil doesnt hurt anyone!

Am I not right? Even if you do meet some "dregs of humanity" in There, how would that affect your personal game experience if you can choose not to have to talk to them? Or see them or hear them....lol   :cutehands:

Why do I get the feeling that Nalora expected everyone in there to be cookie-cutter white-bread suburban middle America?

Vikio, your screenie was hilarious.  If that was the final straw for Nalora, then I can only assume she was simply a prude.  It's not like she was actually seeing real people have sex.

I did an experiment last night.  I was walking around the boneyard with my forcefield off.  Sure enough, one jerk in a buggy saw me and started punting me around.  Without turning on my forcefield, I climbed up a bone until he went away.  He came back later and I just got in around some furniture.  Continuing the experiment, I found many people who attempted to hit me.  At that point, I simply threw out my casual portazone, set up some furniture, and sat down.  There wasn't a thing they could do to me then.

Say, what's up with that chessboard, anyway?  Someone has set up their portazone over it and put out "chess pieces."  Sure, it looks cool and all, but it prevents anyone else from being able to actually use it.  Can someone perhaps develop a floor painted like a chessboard?

Well there really are such problems in any online community... It's just a matter of finding the right people =)

And great idea, Kevin...  I wouldn't mind seeing a floorsized chessboard...  "Avvie-Chess"  :bounce:  That'd just be a blast =) "Great liars are also great magicians"

Where is this ThereChessboard? I havent seen it...'hmm

Oh, and BTW I wasnt totally evil, I made the pic small on purpose...I figured it really WOULD be evil if it was screen sized.  :perfectangel:

Edit: If ya wanna know how to do it, it's easy...my friend told me you just put 2 benches side-by-side, then put another bench on top of one of them. The benches in the screenie had no backs. So someone sits on the top bench and leans 'back...and someone sits on the bottom bench facing them and leans 'forward...'tada
Hope it works, I never tried it myself.

What was the purpose of your experiment in boneyard? To see what people would do with your forcefield off? I don't go after people who have a forcefield off on purpose, but ocasionaly I'll be driving along and then out of no where someone pops into view with it off and I try to swerve out of the way but I always cringe as if I'm hitting a deer or something.

I don't know WHY the chessboard is there... maybe they have plans later to implement a game? If so that'd be awsome, I used to play chess and checkers in ActiveWorlds and it was something fun to do while you have a conversation with someone. Heh. As to the dregs of humanity... I swear to you, There is SO TAME. Who cares if people will dress trendily, be that skimpily or "gothy" or fashionably, I mean.. that's what they are going to do. And really, it's so easy to ignore assholes. If it was that easy for her to be pissed off and leave, I don't think she was meant for this game anyways (although she had such a cute avie!;).

and vikio, that was so intensely cute. hahaha.  :respect: -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK-----

Vikio, the chessboard is like on the east side of Ootay.

Oz11, Avie Chess, that was exactly what I was thinking!

As to my experiment, yes I wanted to see how many people would deliberately try to hit me... and this guy was doing it deliberately.  He kept coming back again and again.  You see, it's one thing if a group of friends get together and two or three volunteer to be punted around, but doing it to someone you don't know at random... the only purpose in that is to cause someone else distress.  I wouldn't care to associate with people like that, and so that's an easy way to find out who they are.

Ketae, I'm glad that our heated discussion elsewhere isn't going to cause problems with us interacting.... see my next post there. Kevin McVeigh

And yeah the portazone peices are anoying, I had an idea if a bunch of people wanted to try it, was to have some avatars act as the peices and have two people play, but with those portazone things there you can't really try anything even.

I was thinking about the same thing.  Just have a each side be real av "pieces" who are in a group IM with the "player" who tells them what move to make.

Then you have a market for like.. chess piece costumes.

I'll have to go around now and search for the chess board!

One of us will have to actually get all the chess piece designs thorugh submissions now... And set up the event

And Kevin, I'm glad we can leave that discussion where it is =)  We obviously believe differently on certain subjects...  But at least we aren't just doing it to be contrary. :beerchug: "Great liars are also great magicians"

I have met the most wonderful people in the past (almost) month I've been on there. Each of them are a bit different, some being the sweet helpful type, some being hilariously funny, some just being generally fun to hang out with. Its the variety of personalities that makes it interesting! I know I haven't been around long, but everyone has been great with me. I've seen lots of names brought up lately with people saying this person is this and that person is that...but I've met and talked to a lot of the "in the spotlight" people and they've all been welcoming and very friendly to me. Maybe I'm just being naive, or haven't seen peoples true colors yet, but I really don't understand much of the "dislike" or "elitist" stuff floating around. Maybe people just got off on the wrong foot or there were misunderstandings 'shrug.
Sure we're wacky, silly, sometimes naughty, and people have certain friensd they chat with more than others, but I love that. I love knowing I can talk to this person when I'm feeling silly, and that person when I need a good laugh, someone else when I want to let my bad girl side out, and another for "normal" conversations. I can talk to people from all walks of life, all areas and all over the world, about things I would never experience in real life. Or, I can hang out in Karuna and talk to completely new people and find out all about their personalities and quirks!

Perhaps I'm still wearing my rose colored newbie glasses and maybe a month from now I'll be on here complaining about the same sorts of things, but for now I'm just enjoying everyone for who they are and ignoring the few griefers that stand in my way.

'''''''''''''''''''''''hug for Heather!

Bama, don't ask cause I don't know!

So I take it she really is gone.  It's sad, but now after thinking about what she said I don't feel too bad for her.  I know that sounds horrible but if she's going to let the fact that people are different from her affect the amount of fun she's having then she has a problem.  I LOVE the fact that I can meet so many different personality types in There.  Heck, in There I can express my own personality to the fullest without the fear of judgement because if you don't like me (especially my newfound love of Goth clothing) you can teleport away and I'll move on!  Too bad RL isn't that way...

'bye Nalora.  I hope you find your "cookie-cutter white-bread suburban middle America" paradise.  ;) KM, I LOVE it!

The best part is that most of us were being quite tolerant.  Except you.  Funny how that worked out, eh?

While we tried to give our advice... you chose to dismiss it because obviously, you being the oldest person in There -- having such "varied life experience", your opinion meant more.  Our posts were just simple comments from the "peanut gallery", merely there to patronize you.

I am sorry to inform you, but I have a brain.  I may not have a Masters but I assure you my brain is fully functional, and it's that very same brain that recognizes hypocrisy when in plain view. "I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong."

Nalora, I'm sorry if calling you a prude makes me intolerant, but you calling There an X-rated Porn site is just blatant propaganda.

XXX = fully visible contact of sexual organs.
X = simulated sexual contact between naked persons.
NC-17 = full frontal nudity, no sexual arousal.
R = nudity but no visible sexual organs.
PG = no nudity, but suggestive themes

I'm sorry, but There doesn't even make it to R.  Granted, these are not the "official" descriptions of the rating system, but it's what you would typically see.

We tried to offer you alternatives to the things that seemed to be bothering you, but you didn't seem to be satisfied with anything other than every single person in There changing their behavior to fit your conservative morality.  I'm sorry There is no longer fun for you, and I'm sorry you are so repressed that you cannot have any tolerance for others who don't share your moral view.  I'm sure your friends will miss you.

I, for one, will not.  I did not know you, and you prolly wouldn't have liked me if you did because I am an immoral sinner. Kevin McVeigh

I mean of course there are always problems in games such as There, as there are in Real Life. I don't really attempt to think about these glithces and mishaps because I am thankful that I play--the friends i have, and now on the weekends, there is not a time when I am bored--i truly am glad someone created this innovational life simulation   as for Annoying People who are under age 18, true--they are annoying, but I hope no one presumes that everyone under 18 is like that...I am 14 and teens i have met are pretty silly, some are quite intellectual though--just because somone's silly do NOT base it on their age--its just a number lol --base it on their personality-- just a comment ;)

I probably shouldn't, but I am putting my 2 cents in.....

Has anyone checked her profile in there?  She was online as of 10 cst tonight.... Her avie pic is a close up of 2 avies kissing, she is a member of "Official Newbie Corrupters Club", and lists "industrial lubricants" as a hobby/interests...

And yet it would seem such comments/acts are exactly what she dislikes?

Nalora -- have you ever thought people may see such items on profile and think such activity is welcomed around you?  I always check profiles of people around me to try and guage their interests/tolerance levels...   I hope you do enjoy There and stay in -- Your club foundings make me believe that you can add quite a bit to the world, and I'm sure you would be missed.

*joins donbon...not in the same shower you pervs...since he witnessed the horrors of her profile*

lol Troz hon, you just HAD to point out some of us might think this eh? rofl

As for Mr Franco, I had a run in with him at the boneyard (followed by others) it was funny, he ran me down on his buggy MANY times, I had gone afk to come back to my avatar being thrown around all over the yard!! HAHA, it was so funny I tried to add him as a buddy, that just FREAKED him out totally.  I guess he just expected me to rant or something.

Nalora, I know that you have requested to be banned from this site, but you can still come back and read as a visitor.  As I read the entire thread, and referenced your complaints/observations with responses that the forum had offered, one question out of many kept haunting me.  You said we were intolerant, you don't find any of your comments intolerant?  Just a question, hope your days in There get brighter, we all have our ups and downs.  Luckily, there are some really funny, intelligent, and benevolent people in here also. This thread is a perfect example of why TU is not on my daily rounds any more of There related sites I read.

Someone penned (in their mind) a legitimate post concerning personal issues with There. A brief discussion ensued actually on topic, and then turned into a series of one-line, completely non-constructive "conversations" having absolutely *nothing* to do with the thread. There's no blame, I'm guilty of doing it too sometimes. Just ask yourself before you hit reply, is this a post I'm typing to a forum about a topic? Or an instant message to someone that is public.

Yay for spliff: Post counts are dramatically up.
Boo for spliff: Cognitive content is perilously down.

I do not post to get my count up, and I resent the implication. Its normal for a post to stray off topic. Ive run and posted on enough message boards to know that. I like TU, and the laid back atmosphere. Ive had my fill of heavy handed moderation on the TSO boards. People need to stop being such sticks in the mud!

Ouch! That one hurt. Well, I dont know about anyone else, but I wanted to lighten the mood a bit, dsx.  I could care less if spliff turns my count back to zero and makes me start all over again.

First of all, I have met and talked to Nalora on several occassions.  She is a very nice person, she takes to heart some actions, maybe this is good maybe not.  I hate to see her go..

Now, about my posting.  I have always tried to make the mood lighter.  I could tell emotions were high and wanted to put a little bit of ease on all parties.  So it backfires.  You cant please ALL people.  There are those who appreciate it, those who dont.

Now, let me ask this.. A board is a place to post discussions, right?  What is a discussion but a conversation?  A conversation where ppl share ideas, thoughts, etc... A thread is a conversation of ppl putting input and comments...So why is it a bad thing to have a conversation in a thread?

btw, hugs dsx, i still wub ya! :D :hearts: All hail Queen Mackie! :hearts:

I actually agree with Scotty....I'd hate to see this board over-moderated, and I still come here several times a day to check out new posts. The more people that join TU the more this will happen as people are friends. The way I see it, don't read  the thread if you're not interested, plenty of people like the chit chat. I'm an owner and moderator of various yahoo groups and we get this same issue all the time. Some people don't like to read the chatty threads. Others love all of that. You can't please everyone. I justw anted to say that I LOVE the chatty threads!  While we seem to stray off topic quite a bit, it usually happens after the topic of the thread has been resolved...ie-if someone asks a question it's answered then the topic changes.  I'm sorry if I upset you DSX (I never seem to stay ontopic.. )...

Personally I found his comments reminiscent of a pompous ass.  If you have a problem with it DSX, don't read it.  People come here for a good time, regardless of what the topic is.  It will stray on occasion, but people come here to be together.  If someone chooses you use this forum as an IM, then so be it, but for you to come in here and say something like that to people disappoints me.  I've seen you around but I do not know you.  Now, I am glad I don't.

Now if you will excuse me, I have strayed off topic. There 4 All - Community Journal

You know why I keep coming back? I come here because I have friends here, everyone is great here. So what if we stray off topic, I really dont see the big deal. This is more than just a There forum, this IS a place for friends to gather and have some fun. We do talk about important issues as well. This place would get very boring very fast if we always stuck to the topic at hand. With no chit chat, no banter.

Ive seen more than one forum die because the mods didnt like the off topic posts. Ive left forums that did that. I think Spliff is doing a great job here.

Im going to shut up now before I really say something I shouldnt. :)

Good to see everyone replying to a topic - wasn't that more fun? It was certainly more fun for me to read :) 'wink

Just an opinion though - it's odd why so many are taking offense at it. I have nothing against anyone here perhaps it's too easy to personalize criticism, even if it's not applied with a name.

Evank, so quick to judge, I wish you'd reconsider. I think I stated clearly that I *don't* read it. That was my choice. It's just unavoidable when I see a thread that does seem relevant to There, go so far off course as this one did. You may have your mind set on me being a pompous ass, but I would hope that you would give people the same air time for their opinions as you would for yours.

Moderation is key in all things, especially moderation. While you can't make everyone happy, you can certainly try not to call them names. I look forward to meeting you in world sometime and trying to see if we can see things on the same wavelength.

Well DSX I am offended, and I did take it personal. You targeted everyone in this thread that dared stray off topic. You seem to make a habit out of doing this.

Personally, I do agree with you on alot of issues over on the main forums, but what I do not agree with is when you criticize people that has an opinion that you dont like. And I have seen you do this on more than one occasion.

But hey, according to you Im stupid. So what does my opinion matter anyway? :)

DSX, I'm sorry if you took our responses as aggressive, but I for one took your initial post to be aggressive...I felt like you were attacking not only myself but my friends in these forums.  I still :hearts: ya just like I :hearts: everyone here, but please don't attack my friends that way.

Im not judging you DSX, that just flew all over me.  That was my first strike on a person in all the months I have been coming to this forum because personally I felt what you said was uncalled for. However, when you said this...

"You may have your mind set on me being a pompous ass, but I would hope that you would give people the same air time for their opinions as you would for yours"

I have to admit you are absolutely right sir.  Although I did not like what you said one bit, yes you do have a right to say them, just like anyone.

Now, I wish you would try and see things from some of our points of view.  I will agree that what Babydoll and I did in regards to getting our post count up was goofy, but to be honest with you, that was the point.  It was just us doing a little bit of silly nothingness, and no one is the worse for it.  Spliff asked us to stop so we did.

Now, lets take Troz.  Even before he got accepted into There, in fact long before he got accepted into There, he came skittering up here one day like a puppy dog and endeared himself to all of us, and now he comes here because he loves to see everyone, and he loves to goof off,  just like we all do.

People that post off topic in a There related thread are only carrying on conversation.  I don't really see how that hurts anything to be honest with you.  Just as you choose *not* to read this forum because of it, that is exactly why myself and lots of other people *do* come here everyday. The change over from meaningful There issues discussion to a There chat forum was inevitable as people in the world stopped exploring and pushing limits and it became more centered on socializing.

I would say that the % of the population (versus 5 months ago) now into socializing rather than racing or exploring is at an all time high.  There is nothing wrong with that ofcourse, it is just a logical change as the world gets older and there are not as many new and exciting non-chatting things to do.  Now that most of there has been explored and the discoveries made, there is becoming what it was originally intended to be, a chat room.  As the beta testers that pushed the limits left, socializers took their place and this forum has been a perfect reflection of this trend. ...just call me Number 2

I walked away from this thread yesterday - couldn't quite decide if DSX was trolling or Evan is right.......
Anyway to the point - This now a community - sure serious issues get discussed - but people come here to have fun as well.  This is a great place to test out ideas- just don't expect to be taken too seriously all the time. We've got the There Forums if we want to have a serious moan.

Mind – I’m not saying we should dismiss Nalora, she raised some valid points. - Not so sure about DSX.
