does 'damn' count as swearing? Cause that might explain why I'm still novice! Unklebob "un-kull-BOB" : More sexiness than you can shake a stick at.

I highly doubt they monitor your chat to affect your socializer skill. It just takes a lot of chattin' to make it through the levels. I mean, the primary function of There is socialization. They couldn't make it easy to advance up the Socializer skill tree, otherwise anyone who's been here for a couple months would be an Adept.
And think of the processor load if There had to monitor every chat conversation and IM for profanity. If they ARE doing that then they should stop and that'd cut down on a major amount of lag. "Reality is the story I read in my mind, written by my senses."
"I haven't lost my marbles, I just don't keep 'em in the bag!"
"The less a man makes declaritive statements, the less apt he is to appear foolish in retrospect."

Well, Im stuck at Novice socializer, been that way for a couple months now. And I do chat alot. And yes I do cuss, but not all the time. I think it would be ridiculous if There monitored your chat for certain words that would effect your skill. Its the Thought Police, which I absolutelty detest.

I just read this, very interesting question, I TRY and be good, but I do have the occasional rant....monitoring myself way more for the "kiddies" than anything else, but now I will have to think of the other aspects I guess.....
I will keep following, interesting topic

It's a very slow skill. I've been playing there regularly for over 7 months now, and I'm still only "very close" to expert. There Catalog

he-he, No problem for me, I don't curse. Don't find it necessary at all. I just type in caps and do the 'mad emote if I'm angry, and I really don't curse in reality anyway...What's the big deal? P.S.~ My socializer skill is still novice I think, so no worries people, they probably don't care what you type as long as someone else isn't offended. Never Knows Best...

I'm adept, can't remember when I got there, it's been a while... I've been doing the "Cheerleaders kick ASS!" cheer as often as anyone (except Ara ), as well as the occasional expletive or two, and haven't been punished, as far as I can see...
And I seem to be sloooooooowly creeping up on the next level, but it will be a while yet...

I cannot remember who it was, but someone once told me that they macroed blond jokes to raise their skill, and left it run over night ...
Then when they came back in the morning, they had gone from very close back down to close ...
I'll try to remember who it was

Maybe talking to yourself all night decreases your socializer level? Makes perfect sense to me... Never Knows Best...

yeah, i'm pretty sure you have to be in a conversation with more than one person to up your social skill. :P
someone should ask an actual there staff member, perhaps? i wouldn't quite know how to go about asking but i would think someone would. -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- GO d--- s-:- a--- C++ u? LOL I have no idea Lucas!!
Not a shocker to my friends but I raised that level quite fast. I've been expert for a few months now... I raised to expert host, socializer and buggy in one week so I am thinking it all has to do with time spent on the server... and that definitely is something I do quite a bit of time doing.....
Hope this helps a lil.... (didnt really matter much just found it interesting) oh, and no, I don't swear...

An employee confirmed that swearing does NOT lower your socializer skill. However, this stuff is easy to add/remove and they're constantly making changes to stuff, so it could come into effect someday.

Yay I was starting to get worried for over use of many many bad words.. I feel relieved that I haven't been losing points, and I hope they tell us if they ever switch that on. I don't think that would be the best way to go about it though... Kids should have profanity filters on, and adults should be free to speak their minds without suffering socially. That was the biggest bull I had heard... and just made me want to 'cuss more. Glad its not true!

Good call, Cytra. I think as 'citizens' of this virtual community, we should be somewhat entitled to having There do an official vote on something like this, since it affects most of us (if it ever did come to pass). We have decidated many hours (and in some cases credit cards :0 ) to There, so for issues like this concerning 'life' in There, I think it would be a good idea for There to find out what it's people really want. Maybe I'm reading into this too much, or maybe I just like having some things in my control. Does anyone else think that There should consult us on issues like this? Maybe I should do a TU poll about this. jk
(ps. I think this is my first post that actually uses punctuation and capitalization) :0 :0 :0 http://vanno.thereinperson.com
If I was to suffer, let it continue. One day a blessing will come.

Yes, getting ignores makes the socializer skill go down I believe. And Buddy List numbers *do* affect the skill.

would being in a convo with someone else, and both users have macroed some text, would that increase the level?
